Why UK patients consider a hair transplant in Hungary

Patients who choose Budapest most often mention:

  • Direct flights of about 2.5–3 hours from London, Manchester, Birmingham and other UK airports
  • Most of the HIMG doctors speak English, so you can discuss your plan directly with your doctor
  • A published price list in British pounds
  • A clinic in Budapest dedicated entirely to hair transplants, in a member state of the European Union

Hair transplant cost: the UK vs Budapest

A typical hair transplant at a UK clinic, including clinics on London's Harley Street, in Manchester city centre or in Edgbaston in Birmingham, costs several thousand pounds. At HIMG Clinic in Budapest, the same number of grafts usually costs considerably less, especially for larger sessions, and every procedure is still planned and performed by our specialist doctors, whichever package you choose.

Our S.H.E. prices are shown in British pounds by package. The table compares each HIMG package with the average price for the same number of grafts in the UK.

HIMG prices compared with prices in the UK
HIMG packagePrices in the UKHIMG S.H.E. Method
XS1,500 hairs ≈ 600 grafts≈ £1,950600 grafts × £3.25
S2,500 hairs ≈ 1,000 grafts≈ £3,2501,000 grafts × £3.25
M3,500 hairs ≈ 1,400 grafts≈ £4,5501,400 grafts × £3.25
M+4,500 hairs ≈ 1,800 grafts≈ £5,8501,800 grafts × £3.25
L5,500 hairs ≈ 2,200 grafts≈ £7,1502,200 grafts × £3.25
XL6,500 hairs ≈ 2,600 grafts≈ £8,4502,600 grafts × £3.25

HIMG packages are sized by the number of hairs; UK clinics usually price per graft. To compare like with like, we convert hairs to grafts using the clinic's planning figure of about 2.5 hairs per graft, and price those grafts at the UK average of £3.25 per graft from a 2025 survey of 58 UK clinics by Wimpole Clinic. Many UK clinics also have a minimum price, often £2,500 or more even for small sessions (TreatCompare, 2026). HIMG prices are the clinic's current offer prices for the S.H.E. method in British pounds (from 27 October 2026). Your individual quotation includes all necessary fees. The UK figures are indicative averages: actual prices vary by clinic, method and treatment plan.

Costs not included in the treatment price

  • Accommodation in Budapest: we can help you book a place to stay, at an extra cost
  • Travel insurance, if you choose to take it
  • Time off work for your trip and the first week of recovery
  • A personal consultation at the clinic, if you book one (HUF 30,000, deducted if you go ahead)
  • A second session, if your plan needs more than one

All prices and what is included

A very low price is not always a bargain. If a result has to be corrected later, it can cost more than doing it properly the first time. Compare who operates, what is included and how results are documented.

Start with a free assessment from home

You do not need to travel to find out whether a hair transplant is right for you. Send us up to 5 photos, and our doctors will provide an expert assessment within 72 hours, usually within one working day. Add a short description of what you would like to improve. The photo-based assessment and quote are free.

1. The photos we need

These examples show the angles our doctors need to assess your hair loss and your donor area.

  2. Example photo: the top of a man's head, seen from above

For a precise assessment

  • Natural daylight or a well-lit room
  • Sharp, in-focus photos; a good phone camera is enough
  • At least 1,500 × 1,500 pixels and no more than 25 MB per photo
  • Tell us which area you would like treated

2. How our doctors assess your photos

A doctor reviews your photos and looks at four things: the pattern and extent of your hair loss, the size and density of your donor area, your hair characteristics (for example grey, curly or long hair) and what you want to achieve. Your donor area decides how many hairs can be moved safely. If a hair transplant is not the right option for you, or the result you hope for is not realistic with your donor hair, we will tell you.

3. What happens next

  • You receive a recommended method, an estimated number of hairs and an approximate price.
  • Our coordinators and doctors answer your questions by phone, WhatsApp, Viber or email. Most of our doctors speak English.
  • If you prefer, you can book a personal consultation at the clinic (HUF 30,000, deducted from your procedure price if you go ahead).
  • On the day of your procedure, your doctor examines your hair and scalp before starting and confirms the plan and the final price. If more hairs are needed than in your quotation, which can change the price, we explain this and ask for your approval before going ahead or charging more.

Planning your trip and how long to stay

You need to be at the clinic for your procedure day, from 7:30 until roughly 2–5 pm, so it is easiest to arrive the afternoon or evening before. Sessions of more than 4,500 hairs take two days.

Before you book flights and accommodation

Confirm these with your coordinator first:

  • Your procedure date, and whether your plan takes one day or two
  • How long to stay after the procedure, and whether you should see the clinic again before flying home
  • When it is safe for you to fly after the procedure
  • Flights and accommodation are not included in the packages; we can help you book a place to stay, at an extra cost

Your treatment day and aftercare

A HIMG Clinic operating room with a treatment chair and surgical lights

The procedure day in Budapest

You begin with a final talk about your plan, payment and a medical check. Your donor area is then trimmed and marked, and the hair follicles are extracted and implanted under local anaesthesia, with a lunch break at the clinic. One-day sessions usually finish in the afternoon; your doctor tells you the expected end time during the day. The full timetable for the procedure day

After the procedure

  • You take an aftercare package home: antibiotics, pain relief, shampoo, a donor-area moisturiser, saline solution, a pillow protector and a day-by-day guide for your first days back home.
  • Most people rest for about a week; sport and physical work can usually resume after 2–3 weeks.
  • Transplanted hairs often shed after 2–3 weeks. This is expected.
  • New hair usually starts to grow at 3–4 months, and the final result is visible after about a year.

Follow-up once you are home

Follow-up and check-ups are part of your treatment. Once you are back in the UK, you can contact the clinic by phone, WhatsApp, Viber or email whenever you have a question. Ask your coordinator how check-ups are arranged for patients who live abroad, and send photos of your progress if anything worries you.

Risks and limitations

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure, and it is important to go in with realistic expectations.

  • As with any procedure, there is a risk of infection; the aftercare package includes antibiotics, and following the aftercare guide matters.
  • Tightness, swelling or a burning feeling in the first days is common.
  • Results vary between people and take about a year to show fully.
  • Donor hair is limited, so the number of hairs that can be moved has a ceiling.
  • Hair you have not had transplanted can continue to thin over time, and some patients need a second session.

Why choose HIMG Clinic over other hair transplant clinics in Hungary?

Not all hair transplant clinics offer the same level of specialisation, clinical experience or approach to patient care. When choosing where to have your procedure, it is worth looking beyond the advertised price. HIMG Clinic combines dedicated hair transplant expertise, its award-winning S.H.E. technique, extensive clinical facilities and an individualised assessment process to help patients make a more informed decision.

Hair transplant in Hungary or Turkey?

Questions from UK patients

Before you travel

What should UK patients know before travelling to Budapest?

Start with a free assessment from photos before you book anything. Your procedure day starts at 7:30, so most people arrive the day before, and sessions of more than 4,500 hairs take two days. Flights and accommodation are not included in the packages; we can help you book accommodation, at an extra cost. Confirm with your coordinator how long to stay and when it is safe for you to fly home.

Can I get a hair transplant quote from the UK without travelling?

Yes. Send us up to 5 photos, and our doctors will provide an expert assessment within 72 hours, usually within one working day. Include the front, top, both sides and the back of your head. The assessment and quote are free.

Which UK airports have direct flights to Budapest?

From London, direct flights leave Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted and take about two and a half hours. From Manchester, Ryanair and Jet2 fly direct in about 2 hours 45 minutes. From Birmingham, Jet2, Ryanair and Wizz Air fly direct in about 2 hours 40 minutes. Other UK airports with direct flights are listed on this page. Schedules change, so check with the airlines when you plan your dates.

How long do I need to stay in Budapest for a hair transplant?

You need to be at the clinic for your procedure day (two days for sessions of more than 4,500 hairs). How long to stay afterwards depends on your plan, so ask your coordinator before booking your return flight.

Costs

How much does a hair transplant cost in the UK?

At UK clinics, a typical FUE hair transplant costs about £2,500–£4,000 for 1,000–1,500 grafts and £4,000–£6,000 for 2,000–2,500 grafts (TreatCompare, 2026). London and Harley Street clinics usually charge more than the UK average, while clinics in the North of England and the Midlands are often cheaper than London ones. At HIMG in Budapest, prices currently start from £1,690 for up to 1,500 hairs, roughly 600 grafts.

Is a hair transplant in Hungary cheaper than in the UK?

Usually, especially for larger sessions. The UK average is about £3.25 per graft, and London and Harley Street clinics tend to charge more. For about 1,800 grafts (4,500 hairs) that is roughly £5,850, compared with £2,990 at HIMG with the S.H.E. method.

Choosing a clinic abroad

Should I choose Budapest or Turkey for a hair transplant?

It depends on the clinic, not just the country; there are good and poor clinics in both. Compare clinics on who performs the procedure, how realistic the graft numbers are, how the donor area is protected, documented results and aftercare, not only on price. At HIMG, specialist doctors plan and perform every procedure, and you get a written guarantee.

Is Turkey cheaper than Hungary for a hair transplant?

Headline prices in Turkey are often lower. Compare the total cost, what is included and whether the price is per graft or per hair, as well as who does the work.

What do patients say about HIMG Clinic?

After you return home

What happens if I have a problem after I get home?

You can contact the clinic by phone, WhatsApp, Viber or email. Follow-up and check-ups are part of your treatment; ask your coordinator how they are arranged for patients abroad.

Do the doctors speak English?

Yes, all five do: Dr. András Lendvai, Dr. Bianka László, Dr. Rebeka Páli and Dr. Ádám Bódi speak English, and Dr. Máté Albert speaks English and German.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes. Your guarantee is written into the contract you sign before the procedure. What the guarantee covers

Your hair. Your confidence.
